Help Us Support Young Musicians In Our Community
Since 2011 the West Hartford Women’s Chorale has offered an annual scholarship to a graduating high school musician going on to pursue music. The scholarship is our main way to support music education in our community.
In a normal year, funds for our annual scholarship were raised from donations, ads and concert proceeds. Unfortunately, without holding live concerts due to the current pandemic, our ability to support the annual scholarship has been undermined.
In addition to negatively impacting community arts groups like the WHWC, the pandemic has been hard on student musicians. Performing virtually doesn’t compare with the dynamic interaction of a live audience.
More than any year, we’d like to be able to offer our 2021 scholarship, but to do so, we must raise funds from our members, friends and supporters. You can help us continue to support a deserving student musician this year.
Thank you for your support. We wish you and all your loved ones a happy and safe holiday season. We sincerely hope to see you again in 2021.
All donations that we receive from December 11th until Jan 15th will be reserved for our 2021 scholarship.
Our past 10 recipients have had plans to further their music education and several planned to become music educators. Michael Baril, our 2018 recipient as a baritone saxophone player in the Hall High School Jazz Ensemble, is a sophomore at UConn. The recommendation from his band leader at Hall said, “It is difficult to truly convey the incredible amount of admiration, respect, and awe I have for Michael...I have never seen another student come so far and work so hard…” Michael chose to major in music education much because of his great music teachers and credits his band director with his pursuit of higher-level music performance and education.
WHAT’S OUR GOAL?
To offer a $1200 scholarship in May, 2021.

Clare Porter, a 2019 scholarship recipient, was a basketball player who left athletic success behind and turned to music and songwriting. In her words, “Basketball was the brain freeze life dealt me; music was the cure to my headache.” She continues her music with an all-female acapella group at the College of the Holy Cross; and, of course, she continues to write songs.
