Scholarship Program
This is the 12th year that West Hartford Women’s Chorale will offer a scholarship of $1,200 to a deserving senior in a Greater Hartford high school. Applicants are chosen because they have been active participants in their high school music program throughout their time in school and plan to continue with music in some capacity in college. A huge thank you to all our contributors. Your donations to our 2021 scholarship fund made it possible to support these worthy young musicians.
2020 Scholarship Winner - Erin Goodridge
Erin was chosen from a strong field of applicants. The recommendation from her music director, Dr. Ethan Nash, states that “Erin is an outstanding Soprano I with a beautiful voice, a wide range, a strong ear and good reading ability… In her leadership [as a section leader in choir], she is clear and methodical, effectively diagnosing issues and expressing to the group the simplest ways to fix things.”
The importance of music throughout her life came through in Erin’s own words. “Wherever I found music, I found joy. So, I found my calling. I know I want to help other musicians by teaching them or managing them. I know I want to help others by giving music to them as it was given to me. I want to teach, to sing, to love, to help, to spread music… Music gave me everything and I intend to return the favor." She will attend The University of Connecticut in the fall and plans to pursue a double major in music performance and music education.
The scholarship is made possible every year through revenue from donors, advertisers and concert tickets. Due to present circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, the WHWC will not be able to honor Erin in person, but are very pleased to offer her a $1000 scholarship to support her pursuits.
