After this unusual and difficult year, the WHWC Board is happy to announce that the Chorale will return to in person rehearsals for Fall 2021.
We will be requiring everyone who participates to show proof of vaccination. While we initially hoped to make masks optional, considering current COVID conditions, we will be starting the semester with masks mandatory. We hope to be able to make masks optional should COVID conditions improve. We will be following all CDC, State of Connecticut, and Town of West Hartford recommendations and guidance.
We will continue to monitor current conditions and are prepared to pivot to a virtual format if necessary. For now, our board and music director feel confident that our fully vaccinated, socially distanced group can meet safely. We are SO looking forward to being able to sing together again.
There is a tuition of $270.00 for the year to participate in the WHWC. Tuition can be paid annually or in two installments of $135.00 (September and January). Tuition includes music, a rehearsal notebook and rehearsal audio tracks. Students may be eligible to receive a student discount for Chorale tuition. Financial assistance may be available to any member based on need.
About Us
By participating in the West Hartford Women’s Chorale, members join a community of singers who not only enrich their lives through music but also the larger community they live in through music collaborations, community projects and support for developing student musicians.
The WHWC is a non-audition group open to all women (15 years and older) who like to sing choral music and can blend in an ensemble. While there is no audition, a private voice placement session with the music director is required. Membership in the Chorale is for a full year program (September to June).
Camerata, a select auditioned ensemble of the WHWC, performs challenging choral pieces suitable for a smaller group. Auditions are held each fall, and Camerata members are required to be members of the Chorale. Camerata members pay a small additional tuition fee.
Open rehearsals are held in early September and January. The first two rehearsals of the season provide an opportunity for interested singers to try the Chorale without obligation to join for the year.
Tuition and funds raised by the Chorale go directly toward operating expenses, professional fees, rehearsal and performance costs, and music. The Chorale supports the community with activities like free concerts, a Festival of Women’s Voices, and community projects. The WHWC donates to Gifts of Music, a program for young musicians and, for the last 12 years has offered an annual WHWC student scholarship for graduating seniors pursuing music. We rely on proceeds from concerts, donations from members and friends, and advertising to maintain these activities.

Weekly rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings 7:00-8:45 PM. Sectional rehearsals for vocal sections are held from 6:30-7:00 PM.
